This was an hour trip for us. I’m so glad we did it. Got the Big Daddy Plate and it was more than enough for two of us with leftovers for dinner. The brisket was my favorite, second was the bbq cream corn with jalapeño. The smoked chicken wing were really good too! Chris the owner was a great host. Waitress was very good at her job. I will definitely be returning. If you can make the time to go you won’t be disappointed.
I am from Georgia and have family in Big Stone Gap. I’ve had a lot of Q all over the southeast. This is one of my most favorites! The fried green tomatoes are the best! The brisket is so so good and the Mac n cheese too! Highly recommend! Can’t wait to be back around there before Thanksgiving. I hope you’re open gonna order some food to go!

Can we take a trip off the beaten path for this review? Black Bear BBQ is nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Right in Appalachia, VA. We had the Bourbon Brisket Sandwich with fries and a Loaded BBQ Baked Potato. Both did not disappoint. We did have a little wait BUT worth it! We may be making this one of our new favs.

I stopped in after riding The Dragon Slayer on my motorcycle. I was told about this place by relatives that live in the area and boy, were they right. This little place was kind of like a diner yet more personable. I was really impressed with the burnt ends but the house bbq sauce was phenomenal. Service was top notch and the atmosphere was cool. There were lots to look at as the place was decorated with various black bear decor. Stop in and see for yourself. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in town.
No messing around here. This place has got some wonderful BBQ. We ate here and loved every bite. They have a great menu . Very good variety. No one can come here and not find something delicious to eat. And the pulled pork sandwiches are huge! I haven't found a single menu item I didn't like. They have it all. We have already started recommending it to our friends. This is a place you could enjoy eating at every day. Great staff and the place was clean as can be. Very nice atmosphere. This is not a place to pass by. Come hungry !!! We highly recommend you visit them here. Your tummy will thank you!
Cornbread is on point! The food was yummy, the environment cozy/rustic vibe. The staff was super friendly. This was our first time dining here, and everyone has been harassing us to check it out. So we officially have and say it's well worth the visit. We will be back! Also the mashed potatoes were amazing, I mean what else do you need.
